Ola Hermanos y Hermanas. This is a true story. I hope you will take it to heart. It is the human drama which is pretty much being played out all over the world. Obviously by different characters. This my story and that of the many brothers i got to know doing this work. Originally it was sent to a hollywood producer looking for scripts and ideas for a movie. He never got back with me so this is for you. i'll write more but it will take a while as i am a slow typer.

I'll get right to the point. I have a true story for you that is timely as far as the current political and social climate goes and classic as far as the basic plot of the story goes. And since it's true I don't have to worry that I might forget the details 'cause they are already written down in my head.
A homeless man with a family makes an odyssey of a trip to Arizona with not enough money to make the entire journey. He finally makes it only to find that his Mexican son in law(Miguel) who manages a pistachio farm only has two weeks worth of work for him and the harvest is over. Since this is in Eastern Arizona there is only work for the locals and the nearest city of any size is Tucson which is 100 miles away.
He becomes more and more depressed and desperate by the day. One night as he and Miguel are sitting up late talking, Miguel proposes that there is a "river of Gold" flowing through the desert and if he doesn't mind taking some chances, he could start right away. Miguel, as an ex "coyote" himself, would teach him the ropes and how to avoid the police and border patrol and help him to get started doing work that would get them out of poverty immediately. He has a hard struggle with the fact that it is illegal so it is wrong, right?(no pun intended) He begins the next day to help transport border crossers get to their various destinations.
Many harrowing, humorous, and heartrending trips later he gets caught by the Border Patrol. They threaten him with prison then change their minds and release him-it could have been 3-15 years in Federal Prison, but he is given another chance, although the car rental company will never rent him another car again-LOL. (The car had been rented for him as a birthday present)
Two months later he sees three men shuffling on the side of the road in the summer heat and stops to ask them if they want a drink of water. They plead with him to take them back to Mexico, but he knows that even if he is caught with them just sitting in the car it could mean a long stay in prison.
As he is contemplating handing them over to the Border Patrol to at least get some kind of help for them, he hears a voice telling him that these are his brothers and to remember the "Good Samaritan."
He takes the chance and helps them and actually finds them a job and a place to stay in about 6 hours time (something that had eluded him- finding work and a living situation for himself and his family) and when he charges them nothing and turns to tell the old Mexican man good-bye, the old man looks him in the eye and says,
"When you stopped to help me, I said to myself. 'this man looks like Jesus' "
Obviously there is much more to the story and so many details that i could tell. I even have a song written about my "career" called-IMMIGRANT: A COYOTE'S TALE.
I am living in my car again. In fact, hey, wouldnt that be a good place to pick up on the story line- to have this old grizzled ex coyote telling the story to someone from his car-"Car-date" style.
More to come...Hasta luego y buenos noches amigos.
